“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your formal self (and growing a magnificent beard.)”~ Ernest Hemingway

There is something truly magnificent about a wonderful mustache (and beard), something that lends an air of distinction and respectability to its owner. So it makes perfect sense that this humble facial feature would be called to a noble cause, and used to bring awareness to men’s health issues to people around the world! In Movember, let your beard and mustache grow wild to raise awareness for men’s health issues!

History of Movember

It all got started in 1999 in Australia when a group of young men decided that the middle of summer was a fantastic time to grow a beard (seasons are backward down there, remember). It all started, as most great ideas do, in a local pub and quickly came to contain a group of 80 men dedicated to raising awareness for men’s health issues and spreading this around the world. While it started out just focusing on raising awareness for prostate cancer and depression, it would soon grow to include all men’s health issues.

Competitions for the greatest mustache are held around the world, with 21 national winners being selected, and then one of their number being immortalized as the International Man Of Movember. This movement hasn’t been stopped by much, either, in spite of Scots College in Wellington, New Zealand attempting to suppress it by banning those men who were participating from end-of-the-year prizes from the school.

Today it’s one of the most respected men’s health awareness organizations and has branches and participants all over the world. Everyone from sports teams to educational professionals can be found sporting a mustache during Movember, and on one notable occasion, a Boeing 737-800 that belonged to the Australian National Rugby Union Team!

How to Celebrate Movember

It all starts with throwing out your razor and letting your facial hair grow wild! Man or woman, or something less defined, it makes no difference! In Movember, if you can grow facial hair, it’s time to let grow wild! Style it or leave it untamed, color it or leave it natural, wax it or pomade it, whatever you do just make sure you spend Movember growing a magnificent mustache and beard. Movember is a great movement that has accomplished incredible things in the area of men’s health awareness!

“I don’t have children, but I have 17 nieces and nephews, and they more than makeup for anything that I can do. I have a stepdaughter, and I adore her to pieces, and I think about adoption. There are so many kids at different ages and stages that need families.” ~ Lauren Velez

Adoption Month is a month dedicated to bringing awareness to adoption and the children in need of homes and families. It’s a national holiday that aims at bringing good into the world by putting children first and aims to try and bring families together. If you want to learn more about this unique holiday, read more to learn about its history and see how you can participate in its celebration.

History of Adoption Month

Also called Adoption Awareness Month, it began in 1976 when Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis announced an Adoption Week to promote the need for families to adopt children in foster care. From there, then holiday became official under the presidency of Ronald Reagan in 1984. A few years later, in 1995, President Clinton proclaimed that Adoption Week should be changed to a month instead of a week because of the pressing need for adoptive families to take part in adopting children. From there, President Clinton expanded the adoption process by allowing families to use the internet as a resource for adoption.

Adoption Month became a national holiday for people to take part in. Current officials and candidates generally support this effort, and since then, Adoption Month has been proven to be somewhat successful. Since 2014, roughly 50,000 children have been adopted each year with the average age being about 7 years old. However, more statistics state that while 81.5 million Americans have considered adoption, about 23,000 children age out of foster care without finding a family. While more research is still in the process as each year passes, adoption is an important decision to make in a person’s life and should always consider all of the factors at play.

How to Celebrate Adoption Month

If you or a friend is considering adoption, then take research into all the factors associated with the adoption process, the child you want, and what it would cost to take care of the child. If you are ready for this important life decision, then talk with your local adoption center and see how you can get started. Take some time to research what the adoption process is like and see how you can change a child’s life forever. One of the best ways you can spread awareness of this holiday is by sharing it on social media so all of your friends and family members can know what day it is by using the hashtag #adoptionmonth.

Epilepsy Awareness Month 2021

Tip: Black Friday 2021 Coupons: Black Friday Coupons & Deals 2021

Epilepsy is a poorly understood condition, despite the fact that it is the 4th most common neurological disease. Statistics show that 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy in their lifetime. Although epilepsy is prevalent, public awareness is low, and many people are unaware of the symptoms and signs of epilepsy and how it impacts sufferers.

November is Epilepsy Awareness Month. The aim of this campaign is to get people talking about epilepsy and raise awareness of a condition that affects thousands of people across the world.

The reality is that epilepsy can affect anyone, and learning about epilepsy and Epilepsy Awareness Month equips people with the knowledge and insight to support campaigns and assist those who display symptoms of seizures.

Epilepsy can impact anyone, and there are currently over 3.4 million people living with epilepsy in the US alone. Globally, epilepsy is considered the most common severe brain disorder by the World Health Organization.

History of Epilepsy Awareness Month

Epilepsy Awareness Month has been celebrated since 1969, and in 2003, the US Congress confirmed that November would be Epilepsy Awareness Month. The campaign has grown rapidly and is now celebrated across the world.

Initially launched to enable people to understand more about the condition and how it affects day to day life, more recently, the campaign has focused on preventing discrimination and eliminating myths and perceptions that permeate public thinking.

Over the years, more and more organizations have signed up to support Epilepsy Awareness Month, and this trend looks set to continue.

Epilepsy is a neurological condition, which is characterized by seizures, which cause involuntary movements, shaking, confusion and anxiety. Seizures vary, and coming across somebody who is having a seizure can be terrifying, especially for those with limited knowledge about epilepsy. This is why campaigns like Epilepsy Awareness Month are so important.

How to celebrate and get involved: What you can do.

There are myriad ways to lend support to Epilepsy Awareness Month. Events take place all over the world to raise awareness of epilepsy and generate funds for charities and organizations that support epilepsy sufferers.

From sponsored walks and bake sales to dress-down days at work, there are plenty of ways individuals, communities, businesses, and schools can celebrate the event.

The color purple is also commonly associated with epilepsy, so wearing purple clothes and decorating rooms and public spaces with purple banners and balloons is also a great idea.

Another brilliant idea is to get involved in courses and workshops that provide information about the condition and basic first aid training. Many people wouldn’t know what to do if they came across a person having a seizure in the street, and one of the most crucial aspects of the campaign is to encourage the public to learn how to react in this scenario.

Cities, towns and small communities can celebrate Epilepsy Awareness Month by lighting up landmarks in purple. Social media is also an excellent platform for sharing and liking posts about epilepsy and generating a buzz around fundraising events.

Why Do We Celebrate International Accounting Day?

International Accounting Day Activities

  1. Shout Them Out on Social

Take into account how your favorite CPA might feel if you voice your appreciation for all their hard work on one of your favorite social media channels - and make sure to use the hashtag #InternationalAccountingDay!

  2. Buy an accountant a coffee

Besides being a recognized gesture of appreciation, a piping hot caffeinated drink is a great way to make sure the accountant in your life is alert and focused while combing through all those numbers.

  3. Make an accountant's job easier

Take extra care to format all your spreadsheets the way your accounting department asks you to. It's only one day out of the year. They're worth it.

Why We Love International Accounting Day

  1. Accountants Can Keep Us Safe

The FBI reportedly employs more than 2,000 accounting special agents, and they help take down even the biggest of the baddies, too. After escaping numerous other charges, notorious gangster Al Capone finally went to jail for tax evasion, thanks to the tireless efforts of FBI accountants.

  2. Accounting Allows for the Annual Oscar Vote

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences employs certified public accountants to tabulate all Oscar ballots. The Academy says that accountants are ideally suited for this task because of their reputation for objectivity and attention to detail.

  3. Accountants Know Parts of Us Better than We Do

Accountants are privy to the most intimate details of your firm (and your life). They have access to facts and figures you could never collectively understand and could spell serious trouble if mishandled. It's best to keep them happy, and International Accounting Day is an opportunity to help do just that!

What is International Accounting Day?

November 10th is designated as International Accounting Day. Does the sight of a ledger book make your head spin? That’s why we have accountants to figure it all out. Your job, school, bank, religious institution, and government wouldn’t survive without those dedicated number crunchers. That’s why we have a day out of the year “earmarked” just to celebrate them!

History of International Accounting Day

The history of accounting as an established practice dates back several millennia. Records and documents originating from the Mesopotamian region traced back as far as 5,000 B.C. reveal the employment of accounting systems in the service of tracking the exchange of goods between temples. Further evidence of the prevalence of accounting would appear from discoveries in ancient Egypt and Babylonia, but the most comprehensive findings would first originate from materials belonging to the period of the Roman empire. Information notated across innumerable archives during this era show detailed quantifications kept across areas, spanning public revenues, private expenditures, the distribution of commodities, and more.

The field of accounting has undeniably developed significantly since its introduction in pre-modern times. It would experience especially robust advancements throughout the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period; International Accounting Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the publication of a critical work in the 15th century by an Italian mathematician.

The discipline would go on to see a sharp rise in necessity and demand in the fields of business and finance starting in the mid-19th century. The Industrial Revolution would prove to increase the number and size of companies across the world to an unprecedented degree, and it became imperative for corporations to maintain strong accounting departments to have a part in all aspects of business’ operations. Today, there is an indisputably great number of people working in the profession all over the world – the Bureau of Labor reported in 2018 that there were nearly 1.5 million accountants and auditors working in the United States alone!

Why Do We Celebrate National Healthy Skin Month?

How to Observe National Healthy Skin Month

  1. Chill out

Put your feet up and manage your stress. Stress makes your skin break out and can make skin conditions like psoriasis much worse. Get your rest — between seven and nine hours a day. Exercise in the fresh air from time to time and breathe.

  2. Hydrate daily

Sometimes the simplest actions give you the greatest benefits. Hydrating your entire body by drinking eight glasses of water daily is another cool way to moisturize your precious skin. Add lemons and other fruit to make your daily drinks even more refreshing. If plain water is boring, try adding cucumbers as well. Water clears out the dangerous toxins that hurt your skin.

  3. Check your skin for spots and blemishes

Since November is National Healthy Skin Month, winter is an especially good time to check yourself carefully for spots with unusual shapes or colors that might indicate skin cancer. Look for moles that seem to appear. People with darker complexions aren't exempt from skin cancer. Although skin irregularities are not often apparent on darker skin, people of ethnic backgrounds tend to die more often from skin cancer.

Why National Healthy Skin Month is Important

  1. Skin problems impact everybody

At some point in our lives, we all have trouble with our skin. National Healthy Skin Month lets us review the common problems and some of the treatments. For example, eight out of 10 Americans suffer with acne at some point in their lives. Acne is a skin disorder that causes pimples to form blackheads or whiteheads from clogged passageways between your oil glands and your skin’s pores. Other skin problems include eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis.

  2. Skin cancer inspired National Healthy Skin Month

Skin cancer, the most common form of cancer, affects almost 20 percent of the population. For this reason, the American Academy of Dermatology remains committed to informing the public about the danger skin cancer presents. The two most common forms of skin cancer are squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. However, the majority of skin cancer-related deaths are due to melanoma.

  3. Apply sunscreen all year long

Sunscreen is a powerful weapon against skin cancer. Without sunscreen, those pesky ultraviolet rays can do irreparable damage to your skin. Apply your sunscreen even during the winter months. It's recommended that you use an SPF 30 daily in any kind of weather. It also protects against aging and as the commercials put it, "the ravages of time."

It’s time to pay attention to your skin. National Healthy Skin Month each November is sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology. You may not realize it, but your skin reveals a lot about your overall health. This month makes you aware of what it takes to keep your skin healthy as well as understanding how to treat and prevent common skin problems. National Healthy Skin Month stresses how to correctly use sunscreen and offers helpful tips on how to check your skin periodically to prevent skin cancer.

Listicles Diabetic Eye Disease Month 2021

4 Reasons Why Diabetic Eye Disease Needs Our Attention

  1. It happens gradually

Diabetic retinopathy often goes unnoticed until symptoms are so severe that you are at risk of completely losing your vision.

  2. It's the result of diabetes

Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness with 40-45 percent affected by diabetic retinopathy.

  3. It disproportionately affects people of color

Because people of different ethnic groups are prone to developing type 2 diabetes, African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and Asian-Americans are collectively at higher risk for diabetic eye diseases.

  4. You can fight it with a healthy lifestyle

Prevention is key because taking positive steps like watching what you eat, regular exercise, and correctly taking your diabetes medicine can prevent or even delay any vision loss.

X-Ray Day 2021

Tip: Beyond Polish discount codes: Beyond Polish Promo Codes, Coupons November 2021

In 1895 there was an incredible discovery made, one that would utterly change the way we looked at the human body, both literally and figuratively. On the back of this discovery, a million new technologies would be developed in the areas of medicine, security, and much more. The man who discovered all this? Wilhelm Röntgen, and as a result, he may just be one of the most important men in medical history. X-Ray Day celebrates his discovery and everything that’s come from it.

History of X-Ray Day

The X-Ray was discovered by accident, as part of an experiment where Wilhelm was attempting to ascertain whether or cathode rays could pass through glass. Nearby there was a chemically coated screen, and from it was emanating an odd glow, and dubbed the rays causing that glow X-Rays. Why you ask? Because he didn’t know what they were, so the ubiquitous ‘X for unknown’ was utilized. They’ve been called X-Rays ever since.

So what are x-rays really? They’re energy waves of electromagnetism that act in much the same way light rays do, but with an incredibly short wavelength. 1,000 times shorter than those of light to be precise. Once he discovered them, he began experimenting extensively with them, determining what they could and couldn’t pass through, and how they could be photographed. It was through this that he discovered that lead absorbed it almost completely, and human bone would stop it, creating a new and innovative way to see what was going on inside the human body.

X-Rays were used extensively during the Balkan War to locate shrapnel, bullets, and broken bones in soldiers in the field. X-Rays were used extensively in things like shoe-fittings until it became apparent that it wasn’t all fun and games. Now they’re used for things like security at airports, material analysis, and more, but with much more attention to safety.

How to celebrate X-Ray Day

The best way to celebrate X-Ray Day is to research X-Rays and what they’ve done for us. Then you can sit down and try to think of all the different ways that x-rays are used in modern living.
